A pregnancy resource center without an ultrasound machine is like a day without
sunshine, peanut butter without jelly, Spring without flowers—you get the point! In this day and age, an ultrasound machine at a PRC is, well, a necessity!

In October 2024, our ten-year-old ultrasound machine started showing its age. After all, its main operating system, Windows XP, had been released in October 2001, and the possibility of an upgrade to the operating system was not an option. So, we found ourselves facing the inevitable: the clinic would need a new ultrasound machine—right away!

These machines are not cheap. Let’s just say it would create a heavy financial burden if the organization had to buy these machines at cost. Fortunately, the Knights of Columbus have been a life saver (no pun intended) when it comes to funding ultrasound machines for pregnancy resource centers, especially in Missouri. In addition, Samsung Healthcare will give significant discounts to pregnancy resource centers on the purchase of an ultrasound machine—sometimes as much as 70% off the retail cost! This is what we’d call “a match made in heaven.”

But it takes time to coordinate all the pieces of this partnership with the Knights and Samsung, and we found ourselves in a race against time as, almost weekly, we were experiencing new problems with the old machine. The Knights sprang into action, and in four months they had raised the funds for a new ultrasound machine! Four months is practically a speed record!

Pictured is our seasoned sonographer proudly standing next to our brand new, and I guess you could say “state-of-the-art” machine. The improvements in technology are already proving to be beneficial to our patients.
